If you want SATA drives in a server, instead of spending the money on an external solution, a cheaper option may just be to buy a Poweredge , which has support for SATA drives. You can get this system with a PERC5i card if you want raid capabilities, or with a SAS card option, which allows for 'plain' drive setups.
